Once, a friend said to me “You need to learn how to play a musical instrument”. My immediate reaction was to record “Inner Flute”. A track based on software samples of the flute. But even before this incident I have been improvising on various musical instruments for the last two decades.

And so I took a musical journey in to all instrument-based improvisations I have recorded either on my own or with friends and put together this album. In this album there are samples from cello, flute, piano, harmonium, guitar, bouzouki, bass and banjo, while in the 1996 recording Drowning Piano there is also the sound of the sea.

Music knows how to emerge outside of structured instruments and orchestras. Deep listening helps in establishing a new relationship with music, outside of scores. For me sampling is the instrument. A musical instrument is what can make your soul vibrations audible. So it can be anything.

Many thanks to my friends, improvisers for being open minded in exploiting new horizons with the knowledge of their musical instruments.
