Basil Theodorou was born in Athens in 1968, graduated with an M.Phil in International Finance from Glasgow University in 1991 and now lives in Berlin. Inspired by socio-political themes his musical synthesis emphasizes story-telling by making soundscapes while sampling and improvising.
During 2000-2003, he studied music technology and composition in Athens at Filippos Nakas Conservatory and privately with Dimitri Arnaoutoglou, while during 2011-2015 he attended three UdK – Klang Kunst Buhne workshops for sound artists in Berlin with Douglas Repetto, Paul De Marinis and Alvin Curran.
He has been composing minimal, ambient, experimental, dance, noise music since 1995 and has collaborated with several musicians, video, photography and dance artists. Since 2012, he has released nine albums at dgt4 records and one under the label editions_zero with Jim Andreou and Phii as “At the toy room”. In 2020 he was commissioned to write Music For Movement and so he composed M4M Vol I.
He has performed live, given workshops, or participated in installations and radio programs, in Athens (Small Musical Theatre, Vinyl Microstore, Beton 7, Cultural Center Manos Loizos), Berlin (UdK, Cashmere Radio, Mindscape Universe, Top, Sowieso, Ilali Studio), Cologne (Ausstellungsraum für Brauchbarkeit), Manchester (Fuel Bar), Nicosia (ARTos Cultural and Research Foundation), Thessaloniki (Biotexnia), Poznan (Centrum Kultury Zamek) and Wroclaw (Macondo, Centre for Social Development Szczytnicki Park, E. Geppert Academy of Art and Design).
Since December 2015, he runs POD01 in Berlin, a venue for experimenting with sound and finding new pathways for improvisation. Five events have taken place so far. Transporting waves of poetry, images and movement, as soundscapes, aiming at making a connection.
